Responding to the Cost of Living Crisis
We will be engaging in the following work this winter to support families and individuals who will be especially vulnerable to the effects of rising energy and food prices.
Communitea
Over the winter months (October - February) in the attempt to help combat fuel poverty and encourage positive mental health and build community, St Mark's Church in Bredbury are planning to offer a free weekly hot meal to people in their local community. TLT are asking other churches if they are doing something similar or would like to but don’t know where to start?
Places of Warmth
We are encouraging our Place of Welcome churches and organisations to publicise themselves as ‘Places of Warmth’ during the winter months when many families and individuals will struggle to heat their homes. There is also a national Warm Welcome campaign that you can find out more about here: https://www.warmwelcome.uk
Energy for Life
TLT are delighted to announce a successful partnership bid with Citizens Advice to support the most vulnerable residents of Cheshire to reduce their energy bills and make the most of their energy supply. We have secured funding from Energy Redress to create awareness of, and support application to, funds and schemes that can help people with their energy costs. Two advisors employed by CA will provide advice to support people to make changes that will help for years to come: such as introducing energy saving measures, behavioural changes to cut energy costs and applications to grants. The advice will be face-to-face, online or by phone. CA will also run group workshops in local community venues and attend events. There will be access to "Fuelbank" to provide emergency fuel for warmth and cooking. This is fantastic news, and we will be promoting the service to all churches working with families and individuals who will struggle to cope with rising fuel costs this winter.
