Filling the Gap is a network of churches delivering food and activities during the school holidays, enabling children and families to eat healthy food and play together.

All families are welcome at Filling the Gap sessions but a special effort is made to include families with children in receipt of free school meals. The Feeding Britain campaign has reported on the detrimental effect of hunger on educational development with children in poorer areas seeing their spelling skills decline or stagnate over the summer holidays, taking weeks to make up the learning loss the following term.

However, Filling the Gap does not only support families with food provision. Parents can spend time playing with their children in a safe environment or building relationships with other parents. Children can return to school after the holidays with tales of all the activities they have been involved in, rather than feeling excluded because they cannot join in with other children’s holiday experiences.

We have hosted a number of events helping churches to develop a 'Filling the Gap' programme and are happy to talk to any others who feel that they can offer this ministry to their community. We have put together an Filling the Gap Resource Pack with all the documents and forms you need to run a Filling the Gap programme. You can adapt these for you church and re-brand with your own name and details. Click here to download the Resource Pack.

The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.
